Life is a struggle. While we all have had joys to celebrate and call our own, no one escapes the slings and arrows of life’s misfortunes. I believe we always respond to those misfortunes in ways we believe is best for us at the time. Sometimes we have clarity and proceed in a way that validates who we are, and it turns out in the long run to be in our best interest. Other times we may not know what to do or act in a way that does not turn out as well. We suffer as our past ways no longer fit to meet our present needs.
I love working with people because I know that everyone possesses the power to create changes in their lives. What began as a challenge may become a springboard to a new way of thinking, feeling and behaving that enhances your relationship with yourself and others. I do not know why this is so, but I have seen over and over again that working through one’s pain not only increases one’s capacity for joy, confidence and meaning in one’s life.
The relationship that is developed with the people I serve is key to a successful therapeutic experience. Compassion, understanding and acceptance provide the foundation in my profession that I value and live by. My role is similar to a supportive confidant, teacher, guide and healer. I will ask many questions to begin to know you, but the most important question I ask is “What do you want.” It gives direction to our work as we explore the complexities of your unique strengths and experiences.
